Can you try the following settings in your garglk.ini config file?

graphics  0
sound  0

Ah, fine. You might want to tell the config files names and habitual
locations on the webpage though.

I am happy to write the documentation. What do you think would be the best way 
to deliver it?

Would something like a "quick start" or customization guide linked from the 
front page fit the bill?
