Port documentation over from Google Code wiki #117

Copy the documentation from the Google Code wiki so that it is part of the project.
Translate into Markdown
Repair formatting
Format code examples
Replaced the placeholder readme with the wiki home page

I haven't ported over the links to individual source files, as they are easy enough to find by name.

I know there is an actively maintained 2.x fork of this project, but at my company, we still have lots of projects which use the 1.x version, so having the documentation would be really useful.
