Currently, we recommend news articles to the future communities based on the topics of communities today, although the future communities are formed based on their history of topics of interest from the past to today. This is because we lose the topic information when we form the user communities in future, that is, we don't have access to the topics of interest in future communities. We only know that the members will be topically similar, but what the topics are, we don't know.
The current evaluation methodology can be thought of as a baseline though.
