The Modrinth releases have the MaLiLib dependency but since it isn't in the fabric.mod.json, some users may miss it - especially if they're using Minecraft Launcher where they have to download it from the Modrinth website. Adding the dependency to the FMJ prevents crashes and prompts users to install it.

You should also use this opportunity to switch to the fabric-api mod ID for Fabric API.

I had the same issue, thought the mod wasn't working or at least wouldn't load into game and it was a missing dependency.
