I agree.
The fast creation of intuitive thumbnails is key for a "speed dialer".
First I was impressed by the MakeText.io integration, until I found, that it only allows one line of text. I found that rectangular dials with 2 lines of text are most useful, unless the dials are of the most basic types (root youtube, gmail, maps, ...)
One requirement, I frequently have, is to distinguish groups of dials for the same service / domain. For example it is very helpful, to have around 10 youtube dials (home, subscriptions, watch later, history, ...) or dials for multiple important GoogleDocs.
Here an example: Webstore / Apps and Webstore / Extensions
or
For these types of dial groups (same domain/service) it would be helpful to have a thumbnail option that places the general logo in the first third of the dial and adds one or two lines of text into the other two thirds. This way there would be an eye-catching logo indicating the nature of the dials (GSD stuff / Google Webstore stuff) plus readable text about the details of each dial within the domain/service.
A very elegant solution would also be some kind of expansion dial. For example an overall YouTube dial, that on click or (better) hovering (temporarily) expands into a group of the sub-dials for Youtube.
Thanks for the great extension.
In almost no case the auto-generated thumbnail is an expected or useful one.
For example, adding Gmail, the auto generated one is this:
The expected one is among the "library" ones which I have to select manually each time I add a dial:
The same is the case with other popular pages like outlook or youtube.
