Investigate why Mac benchmarks are "slower" #569

Recent runs of the Mac benchmarks are around 2% slower vs. 3.11.0.

My hunch is that the recent upgrade of the OS on that machine is to blame, so I will start be re-running the baseline. If that isn't the case, should do a proper investigation to find a regression, if any.

Rerunning the baselines did not fix this (we still see 2% slower). So now to figure out why...
