Status item should indicate Growl running status #106

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

What feature or enhancement do you propose?
The icon of the status item should indicate whether Growl is running.

What problem does it solve/What benefit does it provide?
As a user on the discuss list put it[1], “At the moment, if I stop Growl …
there is no visual indicator
to remind me to restart it after.”

The user's original suggestion was “for the icon to be greyed slightly when
it's disabled”, but this is too low-
contrast. A red line diagonally across the icon would work better.

Red line does not conform to UI guidelines for Leopard/Snow Leopard menubar.
Icons should be
black/greyscale. But apart from that, I agree that where Growl has been
manually disabled, a line may be more
effective than greyscale. Suggest a dimmed greyscale icon with a thick black
line over the top?

More importantly, it's conspicuous enough to work; I had thought it wouldn't be.

I don't think this will be necessary.

How about a no smoking symbol in black overlaid on top of the paw?

Chris: It'd probably be too hard to make out the Growl claw through the no
symbol.

We can use the existing grayed-out icon, at least at first. New artwork isn't a
blocker on this, since squelch mode (which is what currently uses the
grayed-out icon) is going away.
