How do we verify a person’s taxonomic expertise for ‘expert’ access

• Would like to know who was the source for thze ID, what are they specializing in to gauge expertise
  • Tracks person who provides image, who is making the annotation, who is making the correction, need ability to view conversations/discussions that led to the ID
  • Be able to look at person’s bios and understand their expertise, area, duration
• Experts are nominated by other verified experts; mentors could vouch for student trainees (similar to ArXiV’s approach)
• Submit relevant biosketch
  • Area of expertise
  • Length of time doing the work
  • ORCID
  • Include in profile linked to taxonomic tree your areas/depth of expertise

I believe iNaturalist deals with this issue by having metrics on how often a user provides an ID that is confirmed by another.

Look into ways of making the existing process more obvious. Request via email can be hard to find.
