the master repo has quite a lot of changes but the PIP is using using a old mid 2013 release

@michaelso You can try to use an alternative package https://pypi.python.org/pypi/python-gsmmodem-new release from a forked repo.

we're still fixing bugs for an upcoming 0.11 version, any help would be most welcome.
