In my hosts file I blocked challenges.cloudflare.com by redirecting to 0.0.0.0 The Cloudflare challenge box does not load on pages but I am able to progress without any captcha error

Not a clue I'm afraid.

I used empiricompany/reCaptcha, blocked www.google.com and got "Incorrect captcha" as expected. So something in how empiricompany/reCaptcha confirms the captcha is different to your newer module
