~issue - _id vs id is it worth it?

Description

see #30 as well. mongo's decision to use _id has complicated a few things... is it worth trying to fix here? or do we just account for it in the refactor? PR #31 has a few instances which use the MUI Grid that throw a fit if the object does not have an id field... well kind of. Investigate. meet.

This is also an issue when we use _id as a sorting criteria...
