Question on opam release date #107

The documentation here:

https://fdopen.github.io/opam-repository-mingw/installation/

suggests that the latest opam file

https://github.com/fdopen/opam-repository-mingw/releases/download/0.0.0.2/opam64.tar.xz

is from 05. Jan 2022.

But the release appears to be from Oct 18 2018:

https://github.com/fdopen/opam-repository-mingw/releases/tag/0.0.0.2

The opem version is 2.0.10 - which doesn't appear to be from Jan 2022.

Is there a newer version of your opam available?

There will be no version 2.1.x or later from my side, at most there will be new 2.0.x and even that at most with plenty of delay, like in the case of 2.0.10. The upstream authors promised for years to take care of the Windows support themselves, so far it remains promises. I myself have too little time and inclination to take care of it at the moment. I'm trying to do what I can to not completely destroy the CI infrastructure that continues to use this repo here, but technically the project is dead. (⇨https://fdopen.github.io/opam-repository-mingw/2021/02/26/repo-discontinued/ )

Yes, the update scheme is unfortunate. In the beginning everything was very experimental and buggy. So I uploaded an update with improvements once a week or more often. So that the old versions disappear right away and are used in the CIs instantly, I simply overwrote it. I didn't deviate from the update scheme even when the Windows version became more stable and got updates less often.

PS: The call of "mount.exe" goes back to a local modification on my part. That was for the PATH translation from Windows to cygwin (C:\.... -> /cygdrive/... or /home/....). Running the external process "cygpath" too often is slow. The problem you describe was not on my screen.

Thank you for the details, also on the mount topic.

The version 2.0.10 works just fine for me - I just find the documentation a bit odd. Did you change the attachments to the release long after the release? Afair opam 2.0.10 is from October 2021, but your release 0.0.0.2 is from 2018.

I tried a few times to organize some sort of hackaton to make upstream opam usable on Windows, so far with little success. Would you be available for such an effort some time?
