To submit the paper as 'Application' into Methods in Ecology and Evolution, the manuscript has to be around 3000 words. This requires some radical shortening, but is totally doable.

[x] shorten introduction
[x] eliminate redundancies in core data standard, include material from outcommented blocks
[x] eliminate redundancies in extensions description
[x] add autogenerated bibliography

I'm down to 4000 words. Taking it to 3000 words will be quite rough. Plos ONE could also be an option. Any suggestions for suitable journals are welcome.
