I am adding some more detail on the EOL TraitBank project, which we really should acknowledge as a foundation paper for our work. Our Glossary of terms should link to terms from their Glossary, whereever posisble: http://160.111.248.28/data_glossary
However, we can easily make clear, why our paper is an advancement by refining the trait data standard from a practicioners perspective and bringing traitdata standards to a broader attention.
I think most of this is covered now in the manuscript. I did not include OBIS because I did not find a citeable document. I also did not refer to GeoBON so far. It might be good to mention though, maybe in the context of how to define trait data in thesauri. A larger classification scheme is useful here.
After talking to Andreas on the phone, I list some initiatives that we should refer to in the next version of the manuscript, if appropriate.
First of all, the existing definitions and extensions of the Darwin Core Standard should be paid due reference. http://www.iobis.org/manual/darwincore/
The Oceanic Biogeographic Information Service (OBIS) proposed an extension on measurementOrFact that allows to add measurement/fact information on occurences or events. https://de.slideshare.net/OBIS-IOC/expanding-obis-beyond-species-occurrence-data-including-sampling-event-facts-and-measurements-related-to-the-environment
The GeoBON Essential Biodiversity Variables list some key traits as well: http://geobon.org/essential-biodiversity-variables/classes/
We further said, that we will invite some more people from GFBio (see #19) and BExIS to comment on the standard.
Especially, the reference to a location and a sampling event should be referenced in trait data generated from specimens sampled on Exploratories sites.
