To investigate potential bias in polling related to the 15% threshold in national polls, it is important to consider how this criterion may effectively prevent independent candidates from participating in the debate stage. Many national polls are conducted by organizations that receive funding from entities aligned with the Democratic or Republican parties, raising concerns about potential biases in the framing of questions and interpretation of responses. This situation can appear unconstitutional and corrupt, as these national polls are often conducted by for-profit media companies that may inherently support the two-party system, thereby limiting the diversity of voices in the political arena.
General feedback?
I am writing to express my concerns about the bias in polling practices that impact independent candidates, particularly in relation to the 15% threshold for debate inclusion. This threshold effectively prevents these candidates from having a fair chance to present their platforms to the public.
Polling practices often exclude independent candidates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from the initial questions, which signifies a dismissal of their platforms and creates survey bias from the outset. This exclusion skews public perception and limits the visibility of alternative political voices.
Additionally, the demographic composition of polling respondents frequently does not match the true demographics of the voting population. While around 50% of voters identify as independents, polls often disproportionately favor respondents from the Democratic and Republican parties. It is rare to see a poll where 50% of respondents are independents, which would better reflect the general public's political alignment. Furthermore, The Commissioners of the FEC currently have 0 independent representation. I propose the commission should consist of at least 2 Independent commissioners to better align with the voice of the people.
These practices not only undermine the democratic process but also hinder public awareness of all available candidates. I urge the FEC to consider implementing regulations to ensure unbiased polling practices and greater transparency in polling methodologies. By addressing these issues, the FEC can help foster a more inclusive political landscape and ensure all candidates have a fair opportunity to be heard.
