Wifi won't turn on #596

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Turn on the device
2.Try to turn wifi on
3.Even waiting for hours, the wifi won't turn on

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The expected output is that of course the wifi would turn on instead it keeps
saying "turning on wifi" forever,i didn't have this problem in the MiniCM9
version 3.0.2 but now in 3.0.3 i do have this problem

What version of MiniCM you are using? On what device (X10mini, X10minipro,
X8)? Are you using Compcache/Zram? Are you overclocking/undervolting?
I'm using MiniCM 9 version 3.0.3 on X10mini,i don't know what's Compcache,i'm
using Zram at 18% and i'm overclocking the CPU with the max frequency at 748
MHz (any higher would cause reboot) and the minimum frequency at 122 MHz and
i'm NOT undervolting

What app(s) are involved in the problem?
None

Have you tried rebooting your device?
Yes,several times

What is the adb logcat output when the problem accurs (see:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Logcat)
I cannot access adb logcat

Please provide any additional information below.
I upgraded to MiniCM9 version 3.0.3 from a notification that i enabled in the
MiniCM9's settings that would warn me of any updates of MiniCM9 and i
downloaded the .zip file from the device itself (trough wi-fi),once downloaded
i went into the recovery mode to install this update, what i think caused this
problem is that i forgot to turn off wi-fi before upgrading, but i'm not an
expert in this sector and my hypothesis could be wrong.

I also have the same issue. I try to turn on wi-fi and it just says: 'Turning
on Wi-Fi' but doesn't actually do anything. I have rebooted, reflashed, cleared
all caches and stats, reset factory settings etc. I'll keep trying things and
post back if I find a solution.

FIX!

Ok after some trial and error i've managed to get it working on my x10 mini.

What I did:

Wipe all caches (including under advanced in CWM) and stats

Factory reset, totally re-format SD card (backup files to pc if needed), and
re-partition using CWM.

Reboot into CWM.

Install update.zip (robyn) ROM, DON'T restart, install
gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip (http://tinyw.in/Ko5N)

Restart, wait 2-3 mins, try wi-fi... SUCCESS!

Hope this works for you, let me know how you get on.

I'm sorry but i'm kind of new in the custom rom world, luckily i know how to do
everything you said except one thing: "re-partition using CWM",so how do i do
that? And i have another question if you don't mind: when i format my SD should
i do it from the CWM or my pc?

You can reformat on pc or in CWM, I did it in CWM and found it easier that way.

After formatting, to re-partition in CWM go to 'advanced' then 'partition SD
card' it will ask you to set sizes for ext and swap, I selected 256mb for both
but you could use different sizes (some people think that 0 swap is best
because then apps are forced to always run in memory or else close if lots of
apps are open).

Let me know if it works!

Ok,i did it and yes the wi-fi turns on,but now i have another problem (sorry if
i bother you): when i'm next to the router and the signal is at it's maximum
strenght it drops to the minimum strenght whenever i try to connect from my x10
mini, then it says "Avoided weak wi-fi signal" and it won't connect, all other
wi-fi devices connect fine,so it's not the router's fault,for now i'm gonna
wait 'till tomorrow after a fresh reboot, then if it still doesn't work i'll
open up a new issue, then i'll tell you which one it is if you want to help,i
still don't know what to do with THIS issue afterwards though, should i leave it
for future users or should i delete it?

No bother at all! The only things I would suggest would be to change the wifi
channel/frequency in the router settings which might help or try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21406675

If neither of those work i'll try to think of something else that might be
wrong.

Have you tried connecting to different routers/hotspots? Does the tethering
feature work to connect a laptop to the phone via wifi?

I think it would be a good idea to leave this issue so others can see it, I
don't know if it is possible to mark it as 'solved' or 'fixed'?

Well i tried after a reboot: didn't work
i tried after installing wifix: didn't work
i tried rebooting after installing wifix: didn't work
i didn't try to switch the frequency of the router 'cuz 802.11g always worked
for me and worked with 3.0.2
i didn't get an opportunity to try to connect to other routers
i didn't try the tethering feature yet
i'm gonna try the other options and keep you posted on anything.
