Just to be sure, if I write a patch for this, will it be merged?
I think this is a good idea; what do we do about users who already have a key id specified?

They will have to update it to the full key fingerprint the next time they submit the form.
To increase the number of people who do update, how about a badge? ;)
Actually I moved this feature to fas 3.0 so it won't be merged into develop if you send a patch but fas_3.0 branch. As stated in an infra meeting couple month ago, fas2 will not get any new features but fixes. I don't see that one as a fix but an enhancement.
Closing this issue as the FAS project is now archived, not actively developed, and unmaintained.
FAS was replaced in March 2021 by Fedora Accounts (https://accounts.fedoraproject.org).
If this issue is a Feature Request that might be beneficial to Fedora Accounts, please refile it against Noggin
The GPG key id is only a part of the keys fingerprint (at least for current keys) and only the fingerprint properly identifies an keys. Therefore FAS should require fingerprints of users' GPG keys instead of only key ids to be able to do something meaningful with this information. Alternatively users could be allowed to upload a public GPG key.
