Fonts shown twice in Fonts app on Silverblue #449

Open AdamWill opened 1 year ago

AdamWill commented 1 year ago

Describe the bug Most fonts appear twice in the Fonts app on Silverblue.

To Reproduce Please describe the steps needed to reproduce the bug:

  1. Run Fonts.
  2. Search for e.g. 'liberation sans'.
  3. See that each of the variants is listed twice.

Expected behavior Each font should probably appear only once.

OS version: Seems to affect most Silverblues.

Additional context In each case, if you open the font and go to Info, one entry is for the font as found in /run/host/fonts, the other is for the same font found in /usr/share/fonts. Ideally these should be de-duplicated somehow.

This looks more of a font-viewer flatpak issue than a Silverblue one to me. I see similar results for the Fedora org.gnome-font-viewer flatpak in F38 Workstation. Maybe font-viewer should do a better job of consolidating fonts like the Gtk chooser does, or distinguish them better (it looks like it also may be listing some variable fonts multiple times).

Is this sill an issue?

AdamWill commented 1 year ago

Yes, it is.

travier commented 1 year ago

OK, looks like we'll have to report that upstream as it seems related to Flatpak packaging, not directly to Silverblue.

We'll have to try this again.
