Should we include HDF 5 into the state of the art report? Are their geospatial HDF-5 datasets or is HDF-5 mostly used as the backend of the NetCDF format?

GDAL has an HDF5 driver
KEA is a raster format implemented in HDF5

in addition:

HDF-4 is still a thing, and used to distribute MODIS data
