Excelent tool. I used it for create bootloaders 1.0.2.0 US AiMesh for my -TMobile AC1900 -> Asus AC68U (now) using merlin 384.13. Now my 4 routers (before T-Mobile AC1900) are AC68U with Aimesh. PS. You only can use AiMesh with T-Mobile AC1900 using bootloaders 1.0.2.0 US AiMesh.

This is great, thanks! One question though, using rt-ac68u_1.0.2.0_us_aimesh.bin ... after update, I get, odmpid=RT-AC68U

But, with rt-ac68u_1.0.2.1_us.bin, then odmpid=ASUS

Which isn't quite right ... rather, it should also be RT-AC68U. Agreed?

Thanks again.

NP! Any chance of getting the files updated?

Thanks!

These files were based on dumps from different routers. Modifying odmpid directly is risky, especially when the two strings differ on length.

Also, it is recommended using the AiMesh version.

arrmo commented 4 years ago

Also, it is recommended using the AiMesh version.

And that's what I'm using, but it does create a bit of a problem - filling the logs with this error (that doesn't exist in the non-AiMesh version), rc_service: watchdog 240:notify_rc start_cfgsync

I assume the non-AiMesh dump (odmpid=ASUS) came from a T-Mobile router?

Thanks!

fengsi commented 4 years ago

I assume the non-AiMesh dump (odmpid=ASUS) came from a T-Mobile router?

Possibly – these files were contributed by SNBForums users, e.g.: https://web.archive.org/web/20180823172816/https://www.snbforums.com/threads/asus-routers-cfe-dumps-collection.17793/

SNBForums is now discouraging hacking TM-AC1900, hence most of the original threads are gone, making it hard to update new CFE dumps, if any.

arrmo commented 4 years ago

OK, that makes sense - NP. Just was wondering if that's where they came from. Thanks!

Any chance you can add the RT-Ac88U? I purchased mine from Gearbest before they were available in Canada and now I need to change the locale form CN to CA. I have been struggling with power on the router and finally figured out that power and channels are limited.

Also what's the easiest way to get the cfe.bin out? I ssh'd in but the save command doesn't work.

This is going to be a dumb question. Is it possible to manually modify the MAC address? I was playing around with a couple routers, and I accidentally used the wrong CFE file to generate the new CFE for the router I was flashing. As a result, it appears that the LAN MAC address is the same on both routers. If I get the CFE file from the incorrectly flashed router, will I be able to modify it to so that it will have the correct MAC address?

Yes. As long as you have the correct MAC addresses, just manually edit the CFE dump file. In case you don't have a copy, you may check the sticker on the back of the router.

Note that a router has multiple MAC addresses for different interfaces (LAN, WAN, etc.). Be sure to use the right values.

Thank you very much. I was able to make the change with a hex editor, and the routers are now working.

I used the non aimesh cfe as that was what was recommended originally. Now that the ai mesh cfe and the two extra 6 & 7 ssh steps are recommended, is it as simple as just mtd-writing the modified ai mesh cfe? I don't want to downgrade the firmware and essential redo all the steps at this point. If that's what is necessary, then I might as well wait and see if Asus downgrades me rather than proactively doing work that might never be required.

Finally, anyone have any positive experience running 386.1?

maperezgu commented 3 years ago

Hi...thank you for your software!...I have been able to turn several TM-AC1900 into RT-AC1900.

However, yesterday, when trying to increase the TX power and unlock the country an original RT-AC68U, I think I bricked it when trying to upload the modified CFE.

I am a total newbie in this ...the power led is off...the router does not enter into recovery mode.

Do you believe it is recoverable? ...any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Maperezgu
