get_palette() returns 1+color_count colors #3

dominant_color = ColorThief(image).get_palette(color_count=3, quality=10) returns [(47, 36, 65), (171, 176, 180), (139, 153, 171), (122, 134, 165)] (with this particular image).

Except when I use color_count=10 where it returns 9?

I have also noticed the behavior where it returns 1 less than the color_count variable.

They are wrong in different ways...

from colorthief import ColorThief

color_thief = ColorThief("img.png")
for count in range(2, 256):
    palette = color_thief.get_palette(color_count=count)
    print(count, len(palette))

Results in
