Support for Substratum/rooted devices #98

Would it be possible to develop another version of Status for rooted devices and/Substratum?

Covering Substratum may solve the Sdk26 problem due to a likely native Support on AOSP in Sdk26.

Or for Sdk 25 a normal rooted edition to get rid of the need for the always-active Notification.

Would it be possible? Yes. Am I going to? Probably not.

Many people have suggested making a rooted version of status in the past as a solution of x issue, but to me that doesn't make any sense. Status essentially works off of a hack: instead of replacing or modifying the actual status bar, it just makes a new one on top of it. This has many issues and doesn't work on all devices or in all situations, and is frankly the most unstable app with close to 1mil downloads that I've ever seen in my life. If you have root, the need for making an overlay in the first place is completely obsolete - you can just modify the status bar yourself by changing the icon resources or layout files, or download a different app (maybe xstana) that does pretty much the same thing, only with much better performance and stability.

That said, Status is open source, so if anyone else wants to do this, there is absolutely nothing stopping them.

Using substratum would be your solution for the problem on O, since it is now completely rootless
