Proxy setting is not being used

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Select SOCKS5 for proxy type and provide hostname and port
2. Attempt to connect

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Plug-in should use proxy setting; Plug-in does not use proxy setting;

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Pidgin 2.7.11; Twitgin 0.3.0
