Various fixes required to get GISS-GC built with GEOS-Chem v14.3.1.

This PR is currently blocked by #8.

Continuous integration testing that GISS-GC can be successfully built is now implemented in #16, which branches off of the one here. If the reviewer is happy with the changes here then I think we can safely merge.
