This was mainly a debugging/safety feature that was included in case the new bgm control methodology didn't always work.
I'm not aware of any issues though, so removing this would clear out some unnecessary complexity in the player code. It's also possible that Dalamud itself no longer supports the method it uses, so it should be removed regardless.
