Trades - Changes or clarification to the approval period (🔥💲) #18

For several seasons, a team without hope of making the playoffs has traded an elite player to another team in exchange for draft picks. Also known as the 🔥💲 (a.k.a. 🌵 🍰 , 🐛 💃 , and 🐐 ☕️ ) .

Considering the terms of the trade are able to be met by most teams in the league, the team selling the elite player could subjectively select the team with which to execute the trade. Hence, owners not given the chance to ante up on that trade may feel collusion is in play. Needless to say, no one in the league would collude... but the nature of our relationships may give one owner more opportunities than another to vet this type of offer without giving others the chance to counter.

In the best interest of the League, it has been proposed that the trade veto period be used also as a trade counter offer period. During this time, a trade is made public and either team is allowed to accept a more competitive offer. This would give all owners an opportunity to put their best offer on the table.

Along with this, it should be proposed to expedite all trade confirmations. Any owner capable of approving/rejecting a trade should do so as soon as possible so that the trade can be executed as soon as there is acceptance (not just when there are no vetoes after 3 days). This way, trades can occur on Saturday or even Sunday morning that would execute in time for Sunday kickoff.

It was also proposed that the above trade approval process be applicable only to trades involving draft picks. All other trades could be executed upon mutual acceptance. The reason being trades involving purely players and cap space are not as subjective or actionable by multiple parties as those involving draft picks.

Recent playoff changes should avoid this in the future, closing for now.
