Free Agent Auction Rounds/Cutoff

Currently, the Free Agent Auction follows these guidelines:

Players will be nominated for auction by owners in the order of last season’s final standings for at least 2 rounds. At the end of round 2 and each following round, a vote will be taken to determine if the auction needs to continue.

In the past, the determination of when the draft is over and remaining players move to blind bidding has been somewhat arbitrary and rarely unanimous.

This issue proposes we clearly define the point at which the Free Agent Auction should stop. Options and proposals are welcome.

One option:

• The MALL (Must Auction Live List) - Create a list of players that must be live auctioned due to risk of grossly overpaying or underpaying player if left to blind bidding. This list could consist of:
  • Top Talent - Free agents with ESPN average auction value greater than set amount (e.g. $50)
  • Expired Contracts - Remaining free agents by contract expiration with value greater than set amount (this list could be 0 players if they are all part of Top Talent)
  • Owner Nominations - Each owner could have a certain number of players added to the list that would have not originally been there as a way to ensure they can live auction for the player.

Once this list is established, we can nominate players from this list: a) randomly b) in value order c) nomination order <-- conforms best to ESPN's draft software

Proposal ratified in poll 8 votes for, 1 vote neutral, 3 abstained/absent:

• MALL (Must Auction Live List) is $40+ ESPN average auction players.
• Each owner gets add up to 3 other names to MALL.
• Owners are able to nominate from this pool of players at their discretion.
