[Offseason Blind Bidding] What to do when cancelled bid made another bid lose? #52

A situation exists where a bid can lose to a higher pending bid, but then the higher pending bid get cancelled with no further action.

Example

Day Team 1 Team 2
Monday $0 bid placed -
Tuesday - -
Wednesday - $999 bid placed
Thursday Bid lost (higher bid pending) -
Friday - Bid manually cancelled
Saturday - -
Sunday - -
... - -

In the scenario above, Team 1 is never made aware that there are no pending bids for the player they originally tried to acquire. Team 1 may move on from the desired player and pay for a less desirable player thinking the other player will sell for a higher price. An owner could even submit high bids across the board and cancel them on the final day making all bids lose.

A couple ideas for how to address (in no particular order):

  1. Rebound Option - When higher bid is cancelled, system will re-run previous bids that lost due to the cancelled bid and give other owner(s) option to take player at original bid. If owner of original bid does not take the option, the bid cannot be cancelled.
  2. Penalty - When a higher bid that has made another bid lose is cancelled, owner cancelling the bid can either keep the bid or take a cap space penalty equal to a percentage of the higher bid.
  3. Notification - System could notify owner(s) with bids that were lost due to cancelled bid and allowed a chance to re-bid with expedited processing (e.g. same day).
  4. No Cancellations - Do not allow cancellation of bids greater than $0 after first day.
