Error when using a Sweater Sample pattern #23

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
1.Opened the sweater (Banff) example to review - closed it and deleted it from
my project explorer
2.Added a new pattern and played a bit
3.Closed all patterns from the project explorer and deleted them from the
explorer
4. Didn't close the app
4. Opened the sweater again and received an error message

Received an error - I can see the code view, but not the pattern view
PLUS the editor is locked up - I can only minimize, I can't exit the editor. Neither the menu or the windows "X" will close the application. (Had to use task manager to close)

What version of the product are you using? Version 0.3.0 downloaded 1-9-12
("about" in the editor doesn't tell my the version)

On what operating system? Windows Vista

NOTE: I have a video of the error. I was recording when it happened. contact me
for a link

Update: After using task manager to close, then re-opening the app, the
sweater pattern was in my project explorer and I'm able to view the pattern

Ah. You have experiences the notorious OutOfMemoryError in the PermGen space...
which basically means that I need to set a command-line argument to the program
to set it higher. I had done that in my test client but forgot to do it in the
final code.

I'll publish how to do it manually yourself, but I'll add it to the launcher
for the next build, too.

For the record, this is how you change the PermGen size:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/FAQ_How_do_I_increase_the_permgen_size_available_to_Ecli
pse%3F

Except that the file you should edit is called knitml-editor.ini, not
eclipse.ini. I put the following line in mine:
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
128m
