Company profiles - add speculative companies #27

Idea for new company profile - requires two flags, "speculating", "break-through imminent".

Basically the idea is this: when a company spawns (either at the start of the game or during the course of the game as a new company) a company may be a 'speculator'.

In this case, the company will be highly leveraged, with high debts, low equity, low revenue and high expenses. At this point in time, the company is highly susceptible to becoming insolvent. Each period, there is a chance that the company will enter the state 'break-through imminent'. The next period, the company will have the 'breakthrough'

When a company has a break-through, it is granted a one time asset bonus and the revenue to expense ratio is modified to be profitable (possibly highly so).

This is to simulate a research company that borrows money to research some new technology, and when there is a break-through, the company gets the asset of the research, as well as ongoing royalties. In the mining sector, this is analogous to prospecting claims, etc.

Numbers should be such that many speculative companies go insolvent, some survive just, and a few survive well, and a few become fantastic.

Okay, this has been completely reworked; company now has a performance profile that will decide the following:

  1. Company modifier at the end of each period -- This decides whether the company will borrow and how much the expense / revenue rates on their assets will be. Possibly allow for additional share floats, share buy back, dividend policy changes. Also moves to different profile (starting next period)
  2. Event Generator -- This will effect the distribution of quarterly events; ie some profiles consistently get average events, some seem to always be extreme, and some have fluctuating levels of volatility.
  3. Proift modifer -- This will determine the effect the event (as generated by the event generator) will have. Some companies will have only minor changes to the bottom line even with extreme events, others will be massively changed by extreme events (ie bankrupt or massively profitable)

These profiles are in the process of being written - see Wiki for details.
