Where do the reference plots (nominal and hole ice) come from? #10

Reference plot

As reference for comparing the angular acceptance plots, I'm using figure 7 from the "Measurement of South Pole ice transparency with the IceCube LED calibration system" paper (2013).

I've taken the parameters for this polynomial from clsim/python/GetIceCubeDOMAngularSensitivity.py. See also: https://github.com/claudiok/clsim/commit/340637e6367d53abe34f6903d953a70eda813a32.

Where do these plots come from?

Assumed hole-ice parameters

The "nominal" curve corresponds to the H0 model, the "hole ice" curve to the H2 model in a hole-ice study by Karle using a YAG laser in 1998: http://icecube.berkeley.edu/kurt/interstring/hole-ice/yak.html

Hole ice models Model H0: hole ice identical to bulk ice Model H1: L_scatt = 100 cm Model H2: L_scatt = 50 cm Model H3: L_scatt = 30 cm Model H4: L_scatt = 10 cm Scattering length L_scatt = geometric scattering length on air bubbles. Hole diameter = 60 cm.

Using the photonics software, effective angular-acceptance curves have been created accounting for the hole-ice effects of the respective models.

Curve parameters

The angular-acceptance curves have been fitted to polynomials, for example for the H0 model:
