ppc, photon propagation code, is the main photon propagation simulation in icecube.

The basic kernel algorithms of ppc and clsim are similar. Both use the propagation of a photon from one scattering point to the next scattering point as basic simulation step. This makes both algorithms more expensive when photons need to scatter often such as in the hole-ice medium.
ppc has a factor 1.5 to 2.0 better performance than standard clsim due to micro optimizations.
