esites Topic 34: How to handle mixed continents/country for a Country/island (Botany)? [DECISION] #34

DISCUSSION POINTS:

The Continent field should only be used to record the political affiliation of the country that the locality is in. With that though, how do we record that an Island is physically in one continent but politically affiliated with a different one? Question is which field to use? Similar situation to the Cultural Affiliation field whose data replaces the continent if it is filled in (e.g. Pacific v Oceania).

E.g. Africa : Spain (Overseas Territory), Canary Islands IRN 43
Europe: Spain, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Tenerife IRN 16469 North America: Saint Pierre & Miquelon IRN 345152

DECISION:

Pre-dev: Record in the jurisdiction field on the site tab (Use the ISO country name) - this will be replaced with an attachment to sites so you can attach to the country level record and that will give you the alternative country name and continent. If the island does NOT have a ISO code then leave the country field blank. If it does fill it in with the ISO country name.
