DISCUSSION POINTS: What to do with records without real specific epithets? E.g. “sp.” “sp.1” How to deal with specific epithets that indicate a working name for a species?

QUESTION: How designate/document an undescribed species? e.g., for “Genus sp a”, “Genus sp b”... Collection by collection, decide how to document e.g., identify cataloged specimens to level possible, then indicate uncertainty from there; come up with logic for reports if needed

DECISION(S): Remove any ambiguous specific epithets that do not represent a ‘working name’. Add a flag to indicate that a record represents a ‘working name’ e.g. “sp. nov.”

DATA CHANGES: Data Changes Doc Pre new development -Removed unknown species from ClaSpecies field and left identification at ClaGenus level only (Mammals) Post development

• Add flag (under construction sign) to all remaining “sp.” aka working names
