etaxonomy Topic 3: CITES/Protected Species Standards #503

DISCUSSION POINTS: What are the Standards and needs surrounding CITES data. Exhibits would like it added, but we need to agree which tab (Geo Status or Red Data) and do we need Geography associated with each. Besides indicating special permitting for loans, what else is this data used for?

I know that in some herbarium specimen databases, like TROPICOS some locality data are obscured for specimens of CITES species. example - phragmipedium caudatum. Does anyone here do this?

DECISION(S): Complete overhaul of the ‘Red Data’ tab to reflect Legal Status at the taxonomic level. Focus on agencies with regulations that if violated could lead to jail time or fines being levied against the museum. Create a ‘Conservation Status’ field in AllGeoTab that can be used to reflect non-legally binding levels of protection (e.g., IUCN red list) All geographic distribution information belongs on the AllGeoTab.
