DECISION(S):
Zoology - "Animalia" Kingdom records have been merged
For Insects/Inverts, Phylum & higher will be merged/cleaned between Jim/Janeen/Paul
For Vertebrates, Ben/Bill/Adam/Alan/Caleb will merge from Class down
Botany - Matt will fix Paleobot to match Bot at higher level
within Botany, still cleaning higher Taxonomy (Nancy/Chris/Matt)
Botany Higher Taxonomy
We’d like the higher taxonomy (family upwards) to reflect modern concepts.
For angiosperms, this would be the APG IV system (Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 181: 1-20. 2016).
For Gymnosperms, Christenhusz et al. (Phytotaxa 19: 55-70. 2011).
For Ferns Fern families PPG, 2016 (Schuettpelz et al.).
For flowering plants, we will look for a reliable source of electronic data that assigns genera to currently accepted families. (TROPICOS? Plant List?)
We need to consult with Chris Niezgoda about how this will impact herbarium operations since the physical filing system still mostly reflects the older system. [NH]
Action and Botany need to discuss, agree, and request this data change
DISCUSSION POINTS:
No need to have duplicate records across collections (e.g., paleo and modern mammals), should work to share taxonomic records where ever possible.
