User Feedback for Browse Museum Media: (original url here)

  1. Q: Is the section based off of the Security Department section in EMu?

    • A: Yes -- the Security Department field (SecDepartment_tab) defines the folder-structure in NetX -- both in the DAMS and in the public portal.
  2. Issue: Photo Archives collection has Anthropology, Botany, Geology, Zoology, Library, Action, and Communications photos so the user would pretty much get everything from that section.

    • Response: While many assets are shared with Photo Archives, there is also a large amount of public (& intranet-only) media maintained solely by the other collections and museum-areas.
  3. Issue: Media assets might be listed under one or two department but the content of media assets refer/contain another department

    • Example: On several botanical expeditions photos taken by Botany department employees might have taken photos of people, buildings, and other things that have nothing to with what Botany.
      • Response: True -- however, this can be accessed via searching or shared collections if not through the initial browsing. Setting up potted-search links and your suggestion about collection groups can help address this. (See https://github.com/fieldmuseum/dams-netx/issues/37)
  4. Issue: Media assets might be under control of multiple departments

    • From a department standpoint, granting permission for photo use will be impossible with the external user
      • Response: If an external user needs permission to use a given asset, they can submit a request via the shared licensing request form. By including the link/s to the asset/s or group they are requesting, the EMu power users from those department/s can be copied on the request.
    • If there are other existing workflows/protocols for managing requests for media shared/managed by multiple departments, please let us know.
