time delay due to wave/force time dependence unnecessary - simple impuse at time of explosion ok.
more complicated stuff can come later. might want something like pressure field, or box2d "virtual particles" for force at a distance. (might also use for rocket engine backblast)
have some simple canvas explosion effect similar to shown in turn-n-burn project again no need to be affected by surroundings yet.
