Open Grant Proposal: Education in Data Management and Analysis on Blockchain

Project Name: Elective course creation: Education in Data Management and Analysis on Blockchain

Proposal Category: Applications

Individual or Entity Name: Cryptotakkies (Entity/Organization)

Proposer: Taktakkie

(Optional) Filecoin ecosystem affiliations: Dcent, a well known Storage Provider focussed on renewability and low cost storage.

(Optional) Technical Sponsor: N/A

Do you agree to open source all work you do on behalf of this RFP under the MIT/Apache-2 dual-license?: Yes.

Project Summary

Cryptotakkies is developing an elective course focusing on data management and data analysis on blockchain technology in collaboration with Dcent, and the Regional Education Center of Amsterdam (ROC Mbo College Zuidoost). With the development of this already accepted elective, Cryptotakkies will educate Dutch students about the applications of blockchain in data management, data analysis, and its benefits over traditional systems. This initiative will further close the gap between the educational sector and current web3 companies, promoting a more profound understanding of web3 technologies in the future workforce.

Impact

With the growing importance of blockchain technology, our proposal addresses the need to educate students about this technology and its potential applications. The course will introduce the concepts of data management and blockchain analysis, including the operations of data center solutions based on decentralized technologies like Filecoin and IPFS.

The project's success will ensure a GenZ workforce that understands web3 technologies, enhancing its application and acceptance across various sectors. The lack of such an initiative could result in a skill gap and a lack of competent staff in the future. Cryptotakkies aims to fill the gap by creating pragmatic education that prepares GenZ for jobs in Web3. With this new elective as a kickstart, we plan to develop a pragmatic web3 curriculum for all Dutch students, focusing on obtaining a job in the web3 sector.

Outcomes

The primary outcome will be a high-quality course (including exams, a tour at Dcent, and a practical challenge for student), divided into four lessons, addressing various aspects of data management and analysis on the blockchain. With the right amount of support from all participating Web3 businesses, we will have the ability to film, record and edit these lessons and make them available to a broader audience, which will measure our success through the number of students reached and their feedback. We are also targeting to secure Filecoin foundation as a sponsor for the course, thereby increasing their visibility and the practical usage of new Web3 standards and protocols.

As previous explained, the course is divided into 4 individual lessons, which give answer to the following questions:

• Data and the blockchain: how does it work? • How does data management work on the blockchain? • How is data created and organized? • How is data stored? • What are data centers, and why are they essential for the future? • How is data managed (and secured)? • How is managing data on the blockchain different from how it was done before? • Which methods are used to apply data management to the blockchain? • What are the benefits of data management on the blockchain? • Explanation of use cases/examples of data management on the Blockchain (e.g. Bitcoin or/and Filecoin)? • What challenges do people face when managing data on the blockchain? • How does data analysis work on the blockchain?

The implementation of the elective Data Management and Data Analysis is already completed. The courses for 'Data management and data analysis using blockchain technology' will be added to these already implemented electives. The elective has already been certified in collaboration with Stichting PraktijkLeren.

Adoption, Reach, and Growth Strategies

The target audience for our project is GenZ students across multiple educational institutions, where we have been conducting educational content sessions for over 2000 students in the form of guest lectures and workshops. In addition, we intend to reach and onboard new users by introducing the course into the curriculum and using the recorded lessons for broader dissemination.

Cryptotakkies has Credibility & Access.

We receive continuous support from the two largest Web3 & Blockchain networks in the Netherlands: The Dutch Blockchain Coalition & the BCNL Foundation.

Cryptotakkies has already educated a total of 2500+ students at: 1 University of Applied Sciences: Rotterdam 2 Secondary schools 4 ROC institutions: ROC Mondriaan, ROC Mbo College Westpoort, ROC Mbo College Gare du Nord, ROC Mbo College Zuidoost

Development Roadmap

The project will be divided into four milestones: Course Development, Filming, Editing, and Presentation. Each milestone will require different resources, from subject matter experts to media companies specializing in educational content production. The project should be completed within 3-4 months, starting in June.

Total Budget Requested

Milestone # Description Deliverables Completion Date Funding
1 Course Development Completion of 4 lessons' content 20-06-2023 €2000
2 Filming Writing script and on-location shoot of course 30-07-2023 €1500
3 Editing Edited video of course 12-08-2023 €2000
4 Presentation Finalized course ready for presentation 25-08-2023 €1500
Total €7000

The development of the course is divided in 4 phases:

  1. Research & Analysis: Done
  2. Writing and design: In progress
  3. Build course (including tools & technology): To do
  4. Implementation, evaluation and (continues) revision: To do

Nicole, Andwele and Raoul will be working on the finished course and presentation of the lessons. Raoul and Nicole are both experienced educators in the space and will personally facilitate the lessons for Regional Education Center of Amsterdam. Together with Andwele & Nicole, Raoul will be working on the filming and production in collaboration with https://sessionone.nl/ a specialized content production company in the Netherlands. Session one wil also be responsible for the final edits of the course.

Maintenance and Upgrade Plans

We plan to continually update and improve the course based on student feedback and technological advancements in the field of blockchain technology. Apart from maintenance, we are already discussing with the Regional Education Center of Amsterdam how we can broaden and upgrade the course with more in-depth and practical use cases in collaboration with Dutch Web3 and blockchain companies.
