Alex K. 6:33 PM :mega: Sharing an important announcement on the Saturn program In October 2022, we announced Saturn, a pilot network to facilitate content retrieval on Filecoin through a network of node operators around the world. More than 5,500 nodes have since joined this network, which is in a closed beta for early customers. Through this process, we have learned so much. This pilot has shown it can achieve <100ms TTFB globally, serving 21M daily requests. Through our experience with Saturn, we’ve realized that we can be more effective at improving Filecoin retrievals by building a decentralized, fast, hot storage network first before adding CDN retrieval capabilities. To this end, the Saturn team and the team behind Web3.Storage are joining forces:handshake:, and are hard at work building a combined product and network offering fast storage and retrieval for Filecoin. We are excited to share more about this project soon. We have reached a strategic decision to refocus our efforts on this groundbreaking new initiative, allowing us to achieve our vision more swiftly. As of June 1st, 2024, we will be concluding the Saturn node provider program and redirecting our resources towards this innovative path. Consequently, we will cease payments to the existing network as we embark on this exciting new journey. This means that: On June 1st, 2024, we will stop the pilot FIL rewards system May 2024 will be the last month we offer payouts to Saturn node operators, meaning in early June the final payouts will be issued for May earnings. Please email us if you have questions related to this change: team@saturn.tech. We are deeply grateful for your participation and support throughout the Saturn experiment. Your involvement has been invaluable in helping us explore the potential of decentralized content retrieval, and the lessons learned will shape our path forward. Please stay in touch with our team as we begin the journey of building and scaling this new network. You can follow along at #w3s-becomes-storacha on Filecoin Slack, where we’ll share more details on ways to get involved soon. If you are interested in running a hot storage and/or retrieval node on the future network, please sign up to this waiting list. Stay tuned for our upcoming roadmap release. Thank you again for being part of this pioneering effort!
