Thanks for the feedback, This could be added with #11992
Are you looking for the tags to automatically be applied if you add more items later on?
I hadn't thought of that. I think there is a valid argument for and against that.
If you tag a folder for business A that you work for, most likely all items within are going to be for that business and would benefit from auto-tagging of sub files/folders.
On the other hand, you may have a collection of files in a folder from different sources - say resources from business A, B, & C and you use those for reference when creating documents for new businesses. An example could be a contract worker who takes short projects with different companies. They might tag the folder with the tags: business A, business B, business C, contract-examples. They wouldn't want all files within the folder to be tagged with all four tags.
Ideally, if you wanted to support the most use cases, you would want the ability to toggle on/off auto-tagging on a folder-by-folder basis.
Another option would be to auto-tag in the future if you apply tags to all sub files/folders.
Thanks for the response, is this an option you'd like to apply any time you add a tag or is it something you'd like to be able to choose each time?
@cjfagerstrom
Each time.
What feature or improvement do you think would benefit Files?
I would like to be able to apply a tag to a folder and have the option to apply the tag to all sub folders and/or sub files.
I have folders organized by company I work with and personal projects. I would like to be able to quickly locate files in the folders by tags, but I have thousands and files in a number of folders and it would save hours (days...weeks) to be able to apply tags in a cascading fashion like this.
