Bug: Opening from external app opens an additional explorer window #15563

Description

I've set Files as the default file manager and whenever I open a folder from an external application it also opens an additional explorer window a few seconds after Files have been opened. Also, it does not select the file when using "show in folder" links (like from the web browser).

Steps To Reproduce

Open a folder from an external application (web browser, download manager, etc.)
wait
An additional window appears

Requirements

There should be no additional explorer window. Also if opened via a "show in folder" type link, the file should be selected.

Thanks for the feedback, We're tracking the select when opening location in #14429 . You can check there or click subscribe in the right sidebar for updates.

As for the double Windows what happens if you open Files from the start menu
What happens if you do Win + E
Can you see if this is an issue in the preview version. https://files.community/download

Win + E just opens a single Files window.

Still happening with version 3.5.

Thanks for checking, We still haven't been able to reproduce this. Since it doesn't happen with Win + E, it likely an issue with the program you using to open a file location. What programs does this happen with?

Hmm, this seems to mostly be happening with the Free Download Manager program, but I'm pretty sure I've seen it elsewhere but can't seem to reproduce that anymore for some reason.
