@ttoennies does this still occur after restarting Windows?

ttoennies commented 2 months ago

Yes

yaira2 commented 2 months ago

Can you check what happens if you turn off the option to keep Files running in the background?

Is this still an issue in the preview version? https://files.community/download/preview

It does not appear to be. Thanks for the follow up.

Attachments aren't added via email, I believe they need to be uploaded via the GitHub UI.

I get that popup after editing tags then exiting the program

Didn't happen in 3.7.0.0 but is happening in 3.7.6.0

Can you check Event Viewer too after you close the app (Windows Logs > Application)?

KremmenUK commented 1 month ago

I'll have a go at reproducing it and dig into Event Viewer I'm wondering if it has anything to do with my upgrade. I was running the free 3.7 but decided to purchase via Microsoft Store I exported my 3.7.0 settings and imported into 3.7.6 All imported OK except for the tags that got messed up with a load of 'unknown' that I manually fixed The only other thing I spotted that didn't get imported was compact view

Opened files, changed a tag - Popup

I can't find anything in Event Viewer

Just tried it again and it fails every time so I can reproduce it

yaira2 commented 1 month ago

Can you try uninstalling both instances of Files and then reinstalling with just one?

KremmenUK commented 1 month ago

Will do

I installed 3.7.6 whilst 3.7.0 was still in place. I then realised 3.7.6 didn't overwrite 3.7.0 so I uninstalled 3.7.0

I'll uninstall/reinstall 3.7.6 and report back

Removed all Tags by deleting all Tags in Settings which automatically removed them from the tags column Uninstalled/Reinstalled Files with a CCleaner run which just found a missing startup entry Added in just 2 tags and when I closed files I got the same OLE Automation popup

I did some more checking and after renaming a directory I got the same popup

KremmenUK commented 1 month ago

Update 2

Uninstalled/Reinstalled again - Used CCleaner again and rebooted PC in between uninstall/reinstall. Did not import previous settings, started fresh

The main setting to reproduce is to disable 'running in the background when closed'

Then I removed one tag - closed, OK Reset the previous tag to a folder and got the popup straight away upon closure

Also get the popup when renaming any file and then closing

I have run Files as Administrator just to rule that out

After trying a few things that popup occurs when I do anything other than just view

Is this still an issue in 3.7.11?

KremmenUK commented 2 weeks ago

Hi

I changed the setting to keep the app running in the background so I'll need to change it and report back

Thanks for the reminder

KremmenUK commented 2 weeks ago

Morning, No, still coming up with COM in use. Open program, edit a Tag, close program, popup not urgent as running in background fixes it. Thanks.
