Files already have a dual pane feature (you can enable it in Files settings). Would this be different?

TheBossMagnus commented 2 years ago

Yes, but you can't drag a tab 09-03-22-140920 .

P.S: Also, if you do this, Files restart and seems to be a little glitched.

@THEBOSSMAGNUS are you trying to tear off a tab to open a new window?

TheBossMagnus commented 2 years ago

yes

Pratham-Galaxy commented 2 years ago

I also want same feature.

gave92 commented 2 years ago

I though the request was about allowing to drop a tab inside Files window to open it in the second pane.

Microsoft Edge recently added this feature https://www.neowin.net/news/you-can-now-drag-and-drop-tabs-in-edge-canary-to-enable-split-screen/

TheBossMagnus commented 1 year ago

I originally intended to make it create a new window, like in file explorer, (already possible in edge stable). But also using the split pannel (like in edge canary) is ok I guess

You can already tear a tab off to make a new Window. You did also say pane and the only thing that uses the name pane is the duel pane feature.

I no longer use files since a year or so ): but iirc at the time of writing this issue it wasn't possible. Maybe I'm wrong or maybe things have changed. Anyway being able to open in a split panel is a nice feature!

I misunderstood this question, basically creating 2 requests in one issue. Sorry for the confusion. The original was just about the (later implemented) tear to create a new window.

yaira2 commented 1 year ago

Tab tear off has been supported well before this issue was created. That said, we might as well keep this open for what I thought this was requesting as it's a good feature request.
