Cleanups for testing #8

As a consumer of this library via home assistant, I'd like to get some testing in there. This starts with a few simple changes on one of the manual scripts, then the introduction of tox linting as an easy place to get some verification into the library. I'll see about adding in real pytest tests as I go.
