Renaming Launcher

Your launcher is terrific, and I hope you consider changing the name to something other than Launcher so it is more easily searchable by name on F-Droid, GitHub, etc

Simple suggestions:

• FinnLauncher
• In Like Finn Launcher (play on this American slang https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_like_Flynn)
• etc

changing the name to something other than Launcher

I also noticed how hard it is to find Launcher by searching a store - that has two reasons:

1. Obviously - as you mentioned: the name
2. I started creating Launcher on the 12th of May. It has only been on the Playstore for about 1 month and even shorter on F-droid. Once it gets some more positive feedback and more downloads, it should move up the search results.

Another thing is that I really like generic names:

So I first went like: "I need a launcher" - "I create Launcher" :smile:

I think we should collect some opinions on this - that is why I gave your issue the discussion label (which I believe, GitHub should implement by default to all repos - I don't really like adding it every time I need it ^^)

I am very grateful that there are people like you (and of course myself ^^), that Launcher is useful for - Thus, I will continue improving it to make it the most efficient Launcher out there (while also having lots of customization settings).

I think a rename would be a good idea. When i first found this app on F-Droid, what got me to install this launcher really was the short description of it being distraction free. Else i probably would have thought of it being an aosp pixel-ish one (like so many others).

Another thing is that I really like generic names

To keep the name kinda generic, i would propose something like: [insert fitting adjective] Launcher Maybe something like: minimal, essential, quick, efficient...

This way it would also be easier to recommend it to friends or to just brag about it idk :D my friend: hey i'm using the lawnchair launcher me: yeah i'm using the launcher launcher, its way better [would probably be a funny conversation xd]

Also into a rename, but as you said, should be general and simple. But it should be less generic than "Launcher" because even searching for it in the Play store I have to use "Launcher Finn" to find it in that mess of launchers that exist.

That said, my suggestion is based on the following

• Simplifying the Home screen to remove the clutter and disorganization that happens to most people
• Giving simple information that everyone looks at their phone for
• Allowing access to the things a person uses most

As such, my suggestion for a name would be

"Clarity Launcher"

• There is already a Clarity, Clarity Money, and other things with that word but I couldn't find a launcher.
• Your app makes things simple, uncluttered and ease of use
• It goes with a rocket in the clouds, in the big blue sky, which will be something I'll be attaching to another issue later when I'm done.
• So the marketing of it is simple.

Clarity launcher is an app to simplify your home screen down to just a few bits of information, the apps you use most available quickly, and that adjusts for the image you want to display. Bringing clear straightforward use to a device that can sometimes cause us so much distraction and time sink to just get what we need.

Clarity implies that it's clear exactly how the launcher works. To someone who didn't set it up (or go through the tutorial), this app just looks like a clock, with some hidden (unclear) features. I think "covert" or "undercover" would be more accurate: someone looking over your shoulder at your home screen has no idea what apps you have installed.

But, I think still a better name would be "four swipes launcher". This name immediately gives an idea of what the launcher does: it launches 4 pre-set apps just by using swipes. The name distinguishes this launcher from all the other poorly named 'minimal, distration-free' launchers. (And yes, I know you can launch more than 4 apps, but the four swipes are the most fun and easy of all the launch techniques).
