It's often the case that one mostly uses a couple of applications, which I suppose is exactly the reason for Launcher to have this very nice shortcut mechanism. However, it's also rather common that more than ~5 applications are used daily, which means there can quickly be a shortage of available shortcuts.
Describe the solution you'd like
Launcher does have a way to access the list of all available applications, but this list is sorted alphabetically. If this list was (optionally) reverse sorted by usage, then the most used (or last used) applications would be at the top. Thereby, applications that are often used, but for which no shortcuts can be assigned, are still very easy to launch.
Describe alternatives you've considered
More shortcuts? But I don't see what gestures could be used.
A way to "pin" applications at the top of the app list? But I feel it is less resilient/automatized than the present proposal.
