[DOCS] Discuss approach to making Theme Builder resources easier to find #678

Open PaulaPaul opened 11 months ago

PaulaPaul commented 11 months ago

Problem/Concern

There are multiple resources available to potential contributors who are interested in learning more about Theme Builder. This issue is a placeholder for a discussion and comments about making those resources easier to find, especially for those who are not familiar with FINOS or Open Source. For example, many of the projects in the OpenJS Foundation have their own landing pages or websites in addition to, and linking to, materials in the Foundation and GitHub.

This issue is a placeholder for comments (below) and for discussion on the community call. Once consensus is reached, this issue can be closed and specific issues can be created to track the desired outcomes.

Considerations:

Proposed Solution

In addition, we could provide guidance on the use of GitHub Discussions and Slack either prior to or as part of the Issue creation flow.

@PaulaPaul can you put some links in here that show how other projects have addressed this problem? I'm thinking that having our own site gives us much more flexibility that just straight GitHub pages does. But I'm more skeptical that just having a new domain name that redirects to FINOS would give us much benefit. Personally I have my tools bookmarked or in my browser history and browser URL typeahead can find anything I've previously visited unless I clear browser data and then I can use Google. It is kinda like phone numbers. I have a bare minimum of phone numbers that I know off of the top of my head and most of those were from pre-cellphone days :-)

Feels related to having a public website. That could be a overarching issue that covers this one.

@lwnoble asked if this should be a lower priority issue and we can rais the priority of #756

@PaulaPaul to tie this to #533 and #124 , and Figma licensing for Theme Builder
