The CDM is a model for financial products, trades in those products, and the lifecycle events of those trades. It is an open source standard that aligns data, systems and processes and is available as code in multiple languages for easy implementation across technologies.
The Asset Refactoring initiative (see issue #2805) will introduce significant changes to the Product model in the CDM.
Currently, all PRs must include relevant documentation changes (ie to https://cdm.finos.org/docs/cdm-overview/). However these refactoring will be released in the dev branch and not impact production for sometime. Therefore the documentation will start to reflect the dev release while the majority of users are still using production.
We would like to have versioned documentation so that end users can view the documentation relevant to the major release that they are working with. That is, CDM version 5 v CDM version 6.
