Thumbnails are stored by Windows, not DarkThumbs. So we're dealing with the standard Windows thumbnail cache.
I'm not an expert on the cache but here are a couple of ideas. Please let me know what works well and I'll add it to the wiki!
Using Thumbcache Viewer to look into details, I believe the cache is based on the filename. So the following sequence might do the job:
It's possible at step 2 that simply renaming the file would also work, or doing something that changes the file date.
Thumbcache Viewer can be used to remove specific entries from the cache, so they'll be rebuilt. I can explain in detail if the above process doesn't work.
Hi, @fire-eggs,
Renaming the file didn't work, but making a copy did: thanks!
If it's not too much bother, I'd love to know how to remove the entry using Thumbcache Viewer, but it's only out of curiosity. I've tried myself, but I couldn't find the specific file that I need to open.
Doing all this testing, I've noticed that the creation of a thumbnail from a CBR file takes a few seconds, but I don't know if I should create another thread to talk about it.
Finally, is there a scenario where "Sort images alphabetically" should be off? From my little experience,it looks like it's better to keep it enabled.
Thanks in advance!

Excellent! Thanks for letting me know!

I think it's worth a wiki page, I'll try to do it soon.

A separate issue would be appreciated. If you have any CBZ files, is the performance similar there?

This is another feature which I'm not 100% up to speed on [this project is now a couple forks away from the original]. I need to dig into it - I'm pretty certain it's best to keep it on.
Thanks for the feedback!
Thank you, @fire-eggs! I'll have a look at the wiki entry when it's ready.
Hi again, @fire-eggs !
You've closed this thread, but I think it makes more sense to write this here instead of opening a new one. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I've just followed the wiki entry on Thumbcache, but it hasn't worked for me. Before I explain myself, I need to clarify that I had to uninstall DarkThumbs a few days ago due to the problems described in a different thread, but I presume I should be able to remove thumbnails previously created.
I had no problem with the tutorial until I got to step number 9, as my thumbnails weren't rebuilt. Since DarkThumbs wasn't installed any more, I thought these thumbnails would be not rebuilt, but replaced by icons. The feature on Thumbcache is called "Remove selected", so I wonder if this simply removes the elements from the list, instead of deleting the thumbnails.
Alas, the Thumbcache author did confirm it can't be used to rebuild thumbnails.
Thank you for asking! In any case, deleting the thumbnail cache through Windows settings is still a valid option!
Hello!
I've recently discovered DarkThumbs, which is a great application that covers a need I had.
I'm writing because I've just noticed that the programme wasn't displaying the first page of my CBR files, which contains the cover of the comic. Instead it was displaying a particular page of the comic, which wasn't very useful.
I remembered that there were some settings to tweak and I decided to turn on "Sort images alphabetically". I'm still not sure what it does, but it worked!
The only problem is that the CBR files previously processed still display the wrong thumbnails, so I was wondering if there's a way to reset them, hopefully without resetting all the thumbnails of the rest of my documents. I presume the thumbnails displayed by the programme are stored in a particular folder, but I don't know the details.
Thanks for the programme and keep up the good work!
